  • HEALTH DAY - organised by our very own School Council

    Fri 09 Jun 2023

The whole school enjoyed taking part in 'Healthy Day' - a special day organised by our School Council. The children were encouraged to take on lots of healthy activities: walking to school (or cycling); bringing a healthy treat into school; selecting our healthy day meal choice; filling our lunch box with healthy treats; dancing, running and yoga; mental health activities to help with our well being.

The whole day was a wonderful success and just for fun we decided to make it a bit of a competition. The School Council discovered that Year 2 were our very special winners and they were crowned 'The Health Masters of Whoberley!

Thank you Donna for our wonderful meal choices and thank you to our Whoberley families for supporting the children in being the healthiest they can be!

  • Comic Relief Day - Friday 17th March

    Sun 19 Mar 2023

Whoberley had a whale of a time on Friday as they celebrated Comic Relief Day. The School Council made sure that they listened to all of the children's ideas on what theme they wanted this year. The majority of children voted for a Pyjama Day. The Council also wanted to organise a cake sale, a red nose sale and a 'Laugh-A-Lot' assembly. The children believed that if a target was set then they were more likely to achieve it (and perhaps exceed it). The target was set at £300.00 - quite a lot of money to raise.

Well Whoberley certainly gave it their all. We had almost all children (and teachers) in their pyjamas. We received hundreds of cakes from our amazing familes and we sold all of the 96 red noses that were donated to us by the PTA. The 'Laugh-A-Lot' assembly was a great success and we listened and laughed at so many jokes. All of the children that took part and who won received a chocolate treat. Well done to everyone who was brave enough to get up there and make us all laugh. Our 4 winners were George (Nursery), Autumn (Reception), Harriet (Year 2) and Jessica (Year 6).

As soon as all of the money has been counted will will give you an update on the total raised. Take a look at some photographs from the day.

  • Story on a Plate winners!

    Wed 08 Mar 2023 LMorris

Well done to these superstar children from each class who won the 'Story on a Plate' competition!

Their plates were chosen by the school council representatives and the children were very proud to be awarded their prize in assembly. All the story plates look fantastic displayed in our school library.

    Well done everyone!

  • World Book Day at Whoberley Hall!

    Tue 07 Mar 2023 LMorris

What a fantastic day everyone had on World Book Day 2023!

It began at the start of the day when children had the opportunity to join our 'Share a Story' session in the hall with our grown ups.  It was amazingly popular and we loved seeing so many families enjoying stories together before registration.

Children made a huge effort to come in dressed as their favourite book character and enjoyed sharing their book with their friends.  We had a really fun day celebrating all things books and on Friday we finished with a 'Teacher Swap' where the teachers visited a different classroom to read a story. It was so fun hearing a story from a new teacher!

We also had a brilliant response to our 'Story on a Plate' competition - well done to everyone who entered.  Everyone who entered will have a small prize and the school council's winners will be given their prize in assembly very soon!

Well done Whoberley - what a great effort!  Thank you to all the grown ups at home who supported with this day and to the staff who went above and beyond to make the day so enjoyable for the children.

  • Reading is Magic festival

Wed 13 Oct 2021 Mrs Morris

In September we celebrated the Reading is Magic festival both in school and at home and we really enjoyed following author Cressida Cowell's daily themes.

The week was all about reading for pleasure and enjoyment and we think we did just that!

Thank you to all involved and happy reading everyone!

  • Virtual book launch!

Fri 09 Jul 2021 Mrs Morris

Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 had such a treat this week and were able to meet (virtually) authors Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet to learn all about how they created the 'Supertato' series.  We learned to draw Supertato himself, sang a song and also had a sneak peek of their brand new book 'I-Spy Island'!  We can't wait to receive our signed copies!

We had a fantastic time and some of us even spoke to them directly with our questions about book writing.

  • David O'Doherty and Chris Judge's virtual book event!

Fri 18 Jun 2021 Mrs Morris

On Friday, Upper Phase were lucky enough to have a virtual visit from David O'Doherty (comedian and author) and Chris Judge (illustrator) sharing all their top tips for creating a brand new book!

The children enjoyed the interactive aspect and had great fun having a go at re-creating Chris' illustrations.

We were thrilled to get a reply from the amazing David O'Doherty on Twitter!  We can't wait for our copy of 'The Summer I Robbed a Bank' to arrive in school so we can share the story together.
