Art Overview

At Whoberley Hall Primary School, Art is valued as a powerful way for children to develop confidence, creativity, resilience and self-expression. Through a rich, inclusive and engaging curriculum, pupils are encouraged to experiment, take risks and take pride in creating their own unique artwork while building skills that can be applied across all areas of learning and in their future lives. By studying a diverse range of artists, designers and craftspeople, including those from the local community, children gain an understanding of how creativity can shape society, culture and history, raising their aspirations and helping them see themselves as creative, capable individuals with a place in the wider world.

Art also provides a safe and meaningful outlet for children to express their thoughts and emotions, develop critical thinking, reflect on their own work and respect the ideas of others. Art provides an inclusive and accessible means of expression for all children, including those with diverse backgrounds, strengths and needs. It offers a valuable opportunity for neurodiverse pupils to communicate ideas, emotions and experiences in ways that may not always be possible through words, helping them to build confidence, celebrate their individuality and find enjoyment and success through creativity.

We seek to create a life-long love of the arts. Through revisiting key artistic concepts and techniques throughout their school journey, pupils make sustained progress, develop creativity and leave Whoberley Hall equipped with the confidence, knowledge and ambition to pursue their talents and future aspirations.
